The Abingdon Press music publishing program produces sacred
choral and instrumental music as well as books and supplies. We publish choral
anthems in various musical styles for all age levels, keyboard and other
instrumental collections, Christmas musicals for children, music resource
books, worship planning resources; and Church Music Workshop, a periodical that focuses on the practical needs of
church musicians and offers reproducible music in each issue.
We also publish small collections of congregational hymns
that we hope will seed future denominational hymnals.
Recently we have also published The Faith We Sing, a hymnal supplement in a wide variety of print and
electronic formats. See www.thefaithwesing.com
for more information.
Some material is purchased outright, some through a royalty
agreement in which the contributor is paid a percentage of the retail price of
each copy sold. In all cases, Abingdon Press obtains ownership of the
copyrights. Abingdon Press assumes the expense of editing, printing, binding,
advertising, and promoting; and in most cases arranges any necessary graphics.
On the retail level we distribute our material through
Cokesbury stores, the Cokesbury Music Service, catalogs, and direct mail. On
the wholesale level, we are represented by the Theodore Presser Company, which
distributes our material to music stores and workshops.
We are interested in reviewing music in all the categories
listed above. All music received by us is carefully reviewed for possible
publication by a group of musicians and editors. If we do not find an
appropriate place for the music, it is generally returned to the sender. Due to
the volume of material reviewed, it is impossible to provide a critique of
material that is declined.
- We suggest that contributors submit complete musical manuscripts
with cassette recordings of the material if possible (the recording does not
have to be produced in a professional recording studio).
- Manuscripts will be accepted electronically if submitted in any
of the following formats: Adobe PDF, Score, Finale, Sibelius, or Cakewalk. (PC versions only)
- Lyric sheets (words only) and lead sheets (words with melody line
only) are discouraged.
- Name and address should be attached to both the manuscript and
the recording.
- The normal review time is four to six weeks from the time the
material is received. For further information, or to submit material to be
considered for publication, please contact:
