In Memoriam: Randy Cross 1957-2022

Reverend Randolph (Randy) Cross, long-time writer for Adult Bible Studies and Daily Bible Study, died March 10, 2022 following a brief illness. Randy quickly endeared himself to readers with his relatable stories of home and family life growing up in a large Air Force family and later with his wife Cheri and their sons, Aaron and Adam. He brought the truths of Scripture to life for countless readers and helped them see themselves in God’s unfolding plan.

IN MEMORIAM - - THOMAS H. TROEGER 1945 - 2022

Thomas H. Troeger, who began teaching preaching at Illif School of Theology and became Lantz Professor emeritus of Yale Divinity School and the Institute of Sacred Music, died Sunday, April 3, 2022 after a long illness. Troeger wrote 24 books in the genres of preaching, poetry, hymnody, and worship. Tom’s most recent books include: Song that Blesses Earth: Hymn Texts, Carols, and Poems and A Sermon Workbook: Exercises in the Art and Craft of Preaching (with Nora Tubbs Tisdale); Music as Prayer: The Theology and Practice of Church Music. He was also a flutist and a poet whose work appears in the hymnals of most denominations and is frequently set as choral anthems. Professor Troeger earned a B.A. Yale University and B.D. Colgate Rochester Divinity School. In 2014 the University of Basel, Switzerland, awarded him an honorary doctorate in theology for his international work in homiletics and his development of “a contemporary religious language which does justice to both aesthetic and theological demands.”

UMPH Extending Permission to Use Resources for Online Worship through June 30, 2022

Nashville, November 2021 – The United Methodist Publishing House (UMPH) is extending full permission to all churches for use of UMPH copyrighted worship materials through June 30, 2022.  Due to the extraordinary challenges faced by churches and others, UMPH (Cokesbury and Abingdon Press) is assuring easy access to essential worship aids and use of the Common English Bible for online worship and studies.
